Hayden Ferry Lakeside
Tempe, Arizona
Hayden Ferry Lakeside, currently under construction, is the first mid-rise, luxury condominium project in the Phoenix area. It incorporates a state-of-the-art structural system resulting in major construction cost savings.
Shear walls are commonly used for seismic resistance in buildings of this type. They have the disadvantage, however, of concentrating the seismic overturning forces at localized areas of the foundation. Since the soft Hayden Ferry Lakeside site requires expensive pile support, shear walls would have required numerous additional piling to carry these concentrated forces.
CKC proposed a better solution. A unique seismic system that incorporates the entire building frame resists lateral forces. This eliminates the need for all shear walls and is resulting in substantial cost savings in both the foundations and superstructure. |
