Marriott at Rivercenter
Covington, Kentucky
The Marriott at Rivercenter sits atop a parking structure constructed several years prior to the hotel. Although the garage was designed to carry the future hotel load, hotel design changes subsequent to the parking structure construction created a misalignment of hotel and garage columns.
To solve the significant structural engineering problems created by this column misalignment, CKC was retained as the structural engineer. After carefully studying the problem, CKC responded with a unique system of transfer beams located at the first suspended hotel level. All hotel superstructure is supported by this transfer floor, which transitions column and wall loads into the parking structure grid.
Since the owner originally assumed that reconstruction of several portions of the parking structure would be required to accommodate the hotel, he realized substantial cost savings when CKC eliminated the need for parking structure modifications. |
