Avalon Meydenbauer
Bellevue, Washington

Located in the heart of downtown Bellevue, Avalon Meydenbauer is one of the largest wood frame projects in the Pacific Northwest and features six levels of luxury apartments over two levels of subterranean parking. The project also includes ground level retail anchored by a Northwest flagship Safeway.

Occupying one full block, the site challenged CKC with unbalanced loading due to the street slope. CKC solved this problem by designing a lateral system to accommodate uneven soil elevations. A stepped slab system was also used to accommodate the varying levels.

A unique feature of Avalon Meydenbauer is a bridge designed to connect the north and south buildings. A seismic joint was used to simultaneously support this bridge for gravity and lateral loads.
