cast-in-place concrete

Shoreline civic center

Project Size: 60,000 square feet

Architect: LMN Architects, Seattle, Washington

Structural Engineer: Cary Kopczynski & Company, Bellevue, Washington

Contractor: Opus Northwest, Bellevue, Washington

The Shoreline Civic Center houses city administrative functions and the City Council chambers. The project incorporates “green” construction practices and was certified as a LEED® Gold development.

Sustainability was achieved through the use of exposed columns and walls, increasing the thermal mass of the slabs, reducing structural material quantities, and by the addition of fly ash in the concrete mix.

The structural system is cast-in-place flat plate concrete with shear walls for seismic resistance. Close teamwork between CKC and the contractor during pre-construction resulted in an optimal design that was constructed on time and on budget.
