MARRIOTT RESIDENCE INN AT RIVERPLACE

This luxury hotel includes 258 suites, subterranean parking for 135 vehicles, and ground-level retail. It is located along the Willamette River near downtown Portland.

Sediment and loose fill material up to 100 feet in depth created a major foundation challenge for CKC. Seismic loads were also magnified significantly due to the amplifying effect of the soft ground.

CKC responded with a pile supported foundation design incorporating concrete vertical piles for gravity load and battered steel piles for seismic resistance. This optimized the efficiency of both materials and resulted in a major construction cost savings.
